Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - River Cats first baseman Daric Barton scored twice, putting him ahead of Esteban German for the most career runs in franchise history, but the River Cats ultimately lost to the Grizzlies in walk-off fashion at Chukchansi Park on Monday night.
Trailing 6-3 in the top of the ninth, Barton led off the frame with a home run on a 3-2 pitch, cutting the Grizzly lead to 6-4. Two outs later, after Jemile Weeks singled through the hole at second base, Grant Green stepped in and delivered a game-tying, two-run home run to knot the game at six.
After a scoreless 10th, Green tripled with one out in the top of the 11th, then scored the go-ahead run on a Shane Peterson sacrifice fly, putting Sacramento ahead 7-6. Reliever James Simmons came on in relief in the bottom half, allowing a leadoff double followed by a ground-rule double and two-consecutive sacrifice flies, giving Fresno the 8-7 walk-off win.
Green finished 4-for-6 with two runs, two RBIs, and was just a double-short of the cycle, moving his batting average to .337 on the year. Weeks, Barton and Stephen Vogt had two hits apiece, moving their batting averages to .323, .320 and .453 respectively.
Lefty Justin Thomas (0-3) started and got a no-decision, giving up six earned in five innings of work, moving his season ERA to 4.73. Veteran righty Brian Gordon tossed three scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts, while lefty Hideki Okajima tossed two scoreless frames of his own. Simmons (0-2) was charged with the blown save and the loss, giving up two earned in 0.1 innings.
