Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-The Reno Aces fell 9-5 to the Las Vegas 51's in the first game of the series on Monday night at Aces Ballpark.
D-backs No. 1 Prospect LHP Tyler Skaggs struggled in his fifth start of the season, giving up eight runs-five earned-on nine hits through 4.2 innings, including a five run fourth inning. The Aces combined for four errors, two each in the second and fourth innings.
Reno started to rally in the bottom of the eighth, pushing across three runs on five hits. Tyler Bortnick's RBI double pushed across a couple runs, but a play at the plate ended the threat.
Chris Owings, who entered the game tied with Albuquerque's Scott Van Slyke as baseball's hits leader, added two more tonight, bringing his total to 40 hits on the season.
Skaggs was charged with his third loss of the season. RHP Bryan Henry threw two scoreless innings of relief to end the game, giving up only one hit in his first appearance of the season.
RHP D.J. Mitchell earned the win for his effort. He threw 5.1 innings, giving up only one earned run on four hits.
