
RGV Vipers Improve to 2-0 with 113-110 Win over Austin

HIDALGO, Texas "" The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2-0) topped the Austin Spurs (0-2) 113-110 in the second game of a back-to-back series at State Farm Arena.
Earl Clark led the Vipers with 21 points. Tony Bishop added a double-double 20 points and 11 rebounds. Gary Talton scored 17 points, followed by Akil Mitchell with a double-double 13 points and 11 rebounds. Akeem Richmond and Tyrone White each recorded 11 points. Clint Capela tallied 10 points.
Jarell Eddie led the Spurs with 24 points, followed by Bryce Cotton with 23 points. Erik Murphy added 20 points. Josh Davis scored a double-double 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Eddie started the game with a shot from behind the arc. Richmond responded with consecutive three-point shots to put the Vipers ahead 6-3. At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 25 points.
RGV built its lead to 37-29 with 8:24 on the clock in the second quarter. The Spurs went on a 13-4 run and stole the 42-41 lead on a layup from Davis. The score tied twice at 44 and 48 points. At the half, Austin led 55-50.
The Vipers opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take the 57-55 lead. Eddie tied the game with two free throws, but Bishop responded with a three-point shot to give the Vipers a 60-57 lead. The score tied three more times as each team battled for control. At the end of the third quarter, the score was tied at 79 points.
At the 3:26 mark in the fourth quarter, Clark connected on a three-pointer to give the Vipers the 98-96 lead. With :01.3 on the clock, Eddie made a three-point shot to close the Spurs' deficit to 112-110. In the last :01.1 Mitchell sank a shot at the line to secure RGV's 113-110 win.
The Vipers hit the road this week to for back-to-back games. RGV will visit the Bakersfield Jam Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 9 p.m. (CT). Then, the Vipers will play the Los Angeles D-Fenders Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 9 p.m. (CT). Locally, Pepper's at Uptown will host a Viewing Party to cheer on the Vipers as they face the D-Fenders Wednesday.
