Stampede Drops Opener to BayHawks

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Stampede fell to the Erie BayHawks 96-88 in the opening game of the 2014-15 NBA Development League season. Stampede forward Jack Cooley left the game at the end of the second quarter and did not return (hand).

Erie came out of the gates hot, with Seth Curry hitting three 3-pointers in the first six minutes. Stampede guard Kevin Murphy recorded eight of his 16 points in the first frame. Idaho struggled in the second quarter shooting only 21 percent (4-19 FG) from the floor. The BayHawks took a 56-43 lead into halftime.

The Stampede chipped away at the BayHawks' lead in the third quarter, outscoring them 23-16. Idaho guard Shane Gibson scored eight points in the period as Idaho got to the line often (11-14 FT) throughout the quarter. With the game winding down in the final period, Stampede forward Kodi Augustus hit two 3-pointers to pull Idaho within three with 1:11 on the clock. Erie guard Peyton Siva answered with a lay-up followed by a 3-pointer by Drew Crawford to seal the victory for the BayHawks.

Seth Curry's 23 points led all scorers, with 17 of them coming in the first half. Daniel Coursey posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Peyton Siva was one assist shy of a double-double, recording 15 points and nine assists. Drew Crawford pitched in with 22 points including four 3-pointers.

Idaho was led by Murphy's 16 points. Forwards Kodi Augustus and Joel Wright contributed off the bench with 14 and 12 points respectively. The Stampede shot just 32 percent (25-76) from the field and 17 percent (5-29) from beyond the arc. The two teams play a rematch tomorrow at 3 p.m. at CenturyLink Arena
