Bighorns Fall in Close Game to Iowa in Season Opener

Reno, NV - During an exciting and energetic game at the Reno Events Center, the Reno Bighorns fell to the Iowa Energy 152-144, Friday.

The Bighorns led in the first quarter 39-37, before the Energy pulled ahead in the second quarter, scoring 45 points.

Tonight was the first regular NBA D-League season test of the Bighorns under new head coach Dave Arseneault, and his high-scoring, and fast-paced offense.

"We are going to need to figure out a way to make a higher percentage of shots at the rim and force the opponent into more turnovers," said Arseneault. "It's going to be a work in progress as we continue to familiarize ourselves with this style of play."

Brady Heslip led the Bighorns scoring a phenomenal 40 points with three rebounds and making 11 out of 18 field goal attempts. Returning Bighorns player Ra'Shad James scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Damien Wilkins and Kalin Lucas both scored a total of 32 points for the Energy. Wilkins dished out nine assists along with 13 rebounds.

After a 121-102 score at the end of the third, the Bighorns made a gain on the Energy in the fourth bringing the score to within six with 27 seconds on the clock.

"I was happy that our guys never quit," said Arseneault. "We battled back in the fourth quarter to make a game of it."
