Iowa Energy Win Shootout in Reno

Reno, N.V. - The Iowa Energy won 152-144 over the Reno Bighorns Friday night in their season opener at the Reno Events Center.

Damien Wilkins and Kalin Lucas led the way for the Energy with 32 points each with Wilkins adding 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Hassan Whiteside also had a double-double for the Energy with 30 points and 22 rebounds. Brady Heslip led the Reno Bighorns' "Grinnell" style offense with a game-high 40 points.

The Bighorns took a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter 39-37. The Energy would come back and score 45 points in the second quarter to take an 82-67 lead at halftime. The Energy shot 62 percent in the first half. Patrick Christopher led the way for the Energy with 18 first half points.

The Energy held a 21-point lead after the third quarter before Reno would put together a strong fourth quarter to get within six points. The Energy would hold on to win 152-144 behind a strong performance from the starting five.

Four Energy players finished with at least 29 points. The team shot 61 percent from the field and finished with 98 points in the paint.

The Energy continues on the road Saturday night against the Santa Cruz Warriors at 9 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on YouTube and 1350 KRNT.
