Reyes Dominant in Cardinals 8-2 Victory

North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers fell 8-2 to the Springfield Cardinals on Monday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.

RHP Arturo Reyes (W, 6-5) tossed a career-high eight innings in the win for the Cards. Reyes allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Over his last three starts against Arkansas, the Warden, WA native has worked 21.2 innings and only surrendered the two runs.

Springfield scored two in the top of the second inning on a bases loaded two-out RBI single by CF Charlie Tilson. The Travs countered in the bottom of the frame thanks to a RF Cal Towey RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1.

After the Cardinals plated a run in the fifth, they broke the game open with a five-run eighth off LHP Scott Snodgress. Snodgress surrendered all five runs on four hits with two walks and no strikeouts in one-third of an inning.

Travs starting pitcher RHP Chris Ellis (L, 4-1), who walked seven in his last start against Springfield, allowed three runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Nate Hyatt (2 IP) and RHP Austin Adams (1.2 IP) combined to throw 3.2 innings of shutout relief for the Travs. Adams lowered his ERA to 1.78 and has surrendered only one earned run over his last 20 innings.

3B Brian Hernandez, 1B Wade Hinkle and DH Raywilly Gomez each had two hits for Arkansas. Gomez reached base three times.

SS Matt Williams finished 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs for Springfield.

Cardinals RF David Washington cleared the bases with a three-run triple in the eighth.

Arkansas finished 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

RHP Ronnie Shaban worked a scoreless ninth for Springfield.

With the loss, Arkansas fell to 48-45 on the season. The two teams will play game three of the four-game series on Tuesday at Dickey-Stephens Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
