'Riders Even Series Behind Late Homers
July 20, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release
Nick Williams' go-ahead solo homer in the top of the ninth propelled Frisco to a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over San Antonio Monday night at Wolff Stadium.
Alberth Martinez helped the Missions take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of third against starter Victor Payano with a run-scoring single to right.
Two innings later, San Antonio jumped Payano for two more as a Luis Domoromo triple and another Martinez single pushed the lead to 3-0.
San Antonio starter Dennis O'Grady did not allow a run through his first five innings, limiting Frisco to just three hits. However, in the sixth, O'Grady ran into his first jam as the 'Riders loaded the bases with nobody out on a pair of walks and a hit batsman. Next batter, Trever Adams got Frisco on the board with a sacrifice fly to left. To get through the rest of the inning, the Missions called on Brandon Alger. The decision proved to be a good one as the southpaw retired each of the next two hitters to preserve the two-run lead.
Frisco eventually got back to even in the eighth when Adams took reliever Michael Dimock deep to left for a two-run homer.
In the top of the ninth, the 'Riders took their first lead when Williams drilled an 0-1 pitch from Tayron Guerrero (1-5) over the wall in left.
After Andrew Faulkner (7-4) got the first out of the bottom of the ninth, replacement David Martinez (12th save) retired both Martinez and Hunter Renfroe to end the game.
San Antonio (10-14, 41-53) resumes its series with Frisco (14-9, 43-50) on $2 Tuesday presented by KCWX. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Elliot Morris (3-8, 4.96) will take the hill for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with fellow righty Jose Leclerc (4-4, 4.50).
Notes: Martinez (2-for-5) extended his hit streak to eight games. Early Monday, it was announced that Yeison Asencio was named Texas League Player of the Week for July 13-19. In his six games this past week, Asencio hit .458 (11-for-24) with three doubles, two homers, 12 RBI and five runs scored. For the week, Asencio led the TL in both RBI and OPS (1.313). He was also T-1st in both total bases (20) and SLG (.833), 2nd in AVG, and T-2nd in both homers and extra-base hits (5).
