North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers scored three first inning runs in a 3-2 victory over the Springfield Cardinals on Sunday at Dickey-Stephens Park.

RHP Kyle McGowin (W, 5-7) struck out nine for a second consecutive start over seven strong innings. McGowin took a one-hit shutout into the sixth, but an infield single with two outs and 3B Patrick Wisdom two-run home run cut the Travs lead to 3-2. McGowin only surrendered the two runs on three hits with three walks and the nine punch-outs.

Arkansas capitalized on a SS Aledmys Diaz inning-prolonging error in the first. With two outs, the Travs manufactured four straight hits to plate the three runs. 3B Brian Hernandez lined an RBI double to right-center, 1B Wade Hinkle singled to put runners on the corners and RF Cal Towey and DH Raywilly Gomez lined RBI singles to cap the three-run inning.

Hernandez finished 2-for-4 with a run, the double and his league-leading 57th RBI.

RHP Eduard Santos tossed 1.2 frames in relief of McGowin to pick up his sixth hold, and LHP Greg Mahle (S, 9) worked for the fourth time in the last five days to earn his ninth save by striking out RF David Washington to end the game.

The Travs finished 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Sunday was Arkansas' eighth straight one-run game. The Travs had a stretch of seven straight earlier in the season.

With the win, Arkansas remains in a tie for first place in the second half with Tulsa. Overall, the Travs improved their record to 48-44.

The Travs and Cardinals will play game two of the four-game series on Monday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
