York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution made their third lead of the day stand up, defeating the Camden Riversharks 5-4 in front of 4,962 fans at Campbell's Field on Thursday afternoon. The Revs have won two of their last three overall, and will continue their road trip in Camden on Friday night.
The Revs built a 3-0 lead over the first six innings. Shannon Wilkerson led off the game with a hustle double to right field, setting up the first run of the game on an RBI groundout by Andres Perez. Brandon Boggs then lined a home run to right-center in the fourth, and Willie Cabrera added a sacrifice fly to right field in the sixth.
York starter Rommie Lewis was lights out over six scoreless innings. Lewis retired 13 straight at one point, tying a season-high for a Revs pitcher. The lefty did not allow a runner to reach scoring position until the sixth, when he stranded runners at the corners, striking out Ryan Strieby and Mike Costanzo to finish his outing. Lewis allowed just three hits, walked none, and struck out seven, the most by a Revs pitcher this season.
Camden began its comeback in the bottom of the seventh as Carlos Guzman launched a two-run homer against the right field scoreboard. Then in the eighth, Guzman ripped a game-tying single up the middle to tie the game at 3-3.
Cabrera made a game-saving grab for the final out of the ninth, making a sliding catch on a bloop by Strieby to strand a runner in scoring position.
York grabbed the initial lead in extra innings as Salvador Paniagua crushed a tape-measure home run to left with two outs in the top of the tenth.
Camden answered as Evan Crawford rapped an RBI double down the right field line, re-tying the game at 4-4. Reliever Leyson Septimo (1-1) forced an 11th inning, however, retiring Brandon Chaves on a fielder's choice just in front of home plate to leave the bases loaded.
Wilkerson ignited things again in the 11th with a leadoff single up the middle. Sean Smith dropped down a sacrifice bunt moving Wilkerson into scoring position, and Bryan Pounds followed with an RBI double down the right field line, giving the Revs the 5-4 lead.
Nick Mutz earned a save in his York debut with a 1-2-3 bottom of the 11th, striking out the final two hitters to close it out.
Notes: The Revs have played three straight one-run games, winning two of those three after having played just three one-run games in their first 29 contests of the season. The Revs improve to 1-1 in extra-inning games and 3-2 in games decided in a team's last at-bat. Wilkerson (3-for-6) has hit safely in all six games since joining the Revs. Pounds (2-for-5) extends his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games, the Revs' second-longest of the season. Paniagua's home run marked the 12th extra-inning home run in Revs history. York lefty Logan Williamson (0-2, 3.26) will face Camden southpaw Bill Murphy (1-3, 5.34) on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
