Lancaster Stormers News Release

Bryan Woodall scattered six singles over six innings on Thursday evening, and three relievers completed the shutout as the Lancaster Barnstormers blanked the Bridgeport Bluefish, 3-0, at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The win was Lancaster's second straight and sixth out of the last eight at home.

Woodall (1-3) yielded one single in each of his six innings of work, four times to the leadoff hitter. He induced double plays in both the fourth and sixth innings and only allowed one of those six to advance to second base. The right-hander walked none and struck out three.

Scott Patterson retired the side in order on six pitches in the seventh inning, and Zach Jackson took it through the eighth, striking out two.

Chad Beck, pitching back-to-back nights for the first time since his "Tommy John" surgery, allowed a one-out single to Welington Dotel and a walk to James Simmons in the ninth. He roared back to strike out John Alonso and get Ryan Babineau on a grounder to second to close out the night for his second save.

D.J. Mitchell (3-2) struck out 10 Barnstormers and also allowed six hits in six innings, but Lancaster was able to bundle the hits together. Kevin Rivers led off the third with a single and stole second. Chevy Clarke struck out, but Tyler Bortnick smashed a single through the right side, giving Lancaster runners at the corners. Yusuke Kajimoto doubled into the right field corner to produce the game's first run. Blake Gailen made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to center.

Lancaster scored its final run in the sixth despite a bad break. Kajimoto walked, and Gailen singled behind him. Right fielder Jovan Rosa bobbled the Gailen base hit with Kajimoto advancing to third. With Brian Cavazos-Galvez at the plate, Gailen stole second, giving Lancaster a huge opportunity. Cavazos-Galvez worked the count to 3-1 before pulling a liner to the right of third baseman Sean Burroughs. Burroughs latched on, then beat Kajimoto to the bag, completing a double play. Lance Zawadzki salvaged the inning with an RBI single into center for the 3-0 cushion.

Matt Packer (2-3) will make the start on Friday night against fellow lefty Mike Antonini as the Barnstormers try to win their third straight. Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Mitchell became the first opposing pitcher to strike out 10 since Matt Wright of Sugar Land, July 23, 2014...Zawadzki went 2-for-3 and is 5-for-7 on the homestand...Jackson has allowed only one run in his last nine innings and has 10 strikeouts in his last five...The Barnstormers have 25 steals since May 10.
