Camden Riversharks News Release
Camden, NJ - The Camden Riversharks mounted a late comeback but would eventually fall to the York Revolution, 5-4, in extra innings Thursday afternoon.
Rivershark bats were quiet to begin the contest, as Revolution starter Rommie Lewis stifled the 'Sharks lineup, allowing just three hits and striking out seven in six shutout innings. In the meantime, the Revolution offense added single runs in three innings to give the visitors a 3-0 lead after six innings.
Beginning in the seventh inning, the Riversharks lineup snapped their cold streak as Carlos Guzman belted his third homerun of the season off of the scoreboard in right center, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
After 'Sharks pitcher Eric Smith tossed his second straight scoreless inning of relief in the eighth, the 'Sharks would push another run across homeplate, courtesy of a Guzman single that scored Ryan Strieby, to tie the game.
Heading into extra innings, Salvador Paniagua chose a timely situation to hit his first homerun of the season, giving the Revs a 4-3 in the tenth.
However, the Riversharks would respond quickly with a two-out RBI double by Evan Crawford down the right field line.
In the eleventh inning, former Rivershark Bryan Pounds would get the Revs out ahead again with an RBI double, giving them a 5-4 lead and the victory.
'Sharks Steve Garrison (0-2) received the loss, while Leyson Septimo (1-1) and Nick Mutz (0-0) recorded the win and save, respectively.
The Riversharks will continue their four-game homestand against the Revolution tomorrow, Friday, May 29th. Gametime is 7:05pm.
