Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 28, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-16) fell 3-0 at the hands of the Lancaster Barnstormers (12-21) on Thursday night in Pennsylvania. Lancaster has now taken the first two games of the four-game set at Clipper Magazine Stadium. It was the fourth time this season that the Bluefish have been shutout in a game, and it was the third time in the last nine games that the 'Fish have not been able to push a run across home plate.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher D.J. Mitchell (3-2) was tagged with the loss, after pitching six innings, allowing three runs and six hits, walking one and striking out ten. The ten punchouts matched a season-high for strikeouts in a single game by a Bluefish pitcher. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Bryan Woodall (1-3) picked up the victory, tossing six shutout innings, striking out three and not walking a batter. Chad Beck closed things out for the Barnstormers in the ninth inning for his second save of the season.
Lancaster took the lead 2-0 in the bottom half of the third inning and never looked back. With runners at the corners and one out, Yusuke Kajimoto belted an RBI double off Mitchell, scoring Kevin Rivers. Blake Gailen's sacrifice fly in the next at bat scored Tyler Bortnick, and the Barnstormers never relinquished the lead. The 'Fish bullpen had another terrific performance, as Nate Baker and Erik Draxton combined for two perfect innings, striking out one batter each in the process. Welington Dotel led the way for Bridgeport with two hits.
The Bluefish return home on Sunday, May 31st, when they welcome in the Somerset Patriots at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in a day/night doubleheader. First-pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. in game one and 6:05 p.m. in game two. CLICK HERE for tickets.
