Revolution Look to Tie Club Record at New York City FC on Saturday
July 8, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release
BRONX, N.Y. - The New England Revolution (6-5-7; 25 pts.) will visit defending MLS Cup champion New York City FC (8-4-5; 29 pts.) on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff at Yankee Stadium. The nationally televised match airs on Univision in Spanish and streaming via Twitter in English. Saturday's contest also airs locally on the radio on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.
The Revolution extended their MLS-best undefeated streak to 10 games with a 2-2 draw at home against FC Cincinnati behind goals from Dylan Borrero and Gustavo Bou, a pairing that has combined for six goals in the Revs' last six games. New England's 10-game stretch without a loss is one game shy of equaling the club record set in 2005 and matched in 2019. With Borrero, Bou, and captain Carles Gil catalyzing the attack through two undefeated months, the Revolution are receiving contributions from all over the pitch, as Sebastian Lletget, Emmanuel Boateng, and DeJuan Jones each distributed an assist in the draw.
Saturday's match is the Revs' encounter with New York City FC since a U.S. Open Cup tilt on May 25, and the first meeting in MLS competition since the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals. New England has won three of the last four league meetings with New York City and leads the all-time series, 9-6-4. The Revolution, 3-4-2 in nine matches played at Yankee Stadium, have registered points in their last four away games. NYCFC sits in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, though they are winless (0-3-2) in their last five matches. First-year head coach Nick Cushing, who took over the helm following Ronny Deila's departure for Belgian side Standard Liège in June, is still in search of his first victory with the Bronx Blues.
New York City boasts one of the league's best attacks led by 2021 Golden Boot winner Valentin Castellanos and attacking midfielder Maxi Moralez. Castellanos' 10 goals this season are tied for the league lead. Revolution Goalkeeper Djordje Petrović looks up to the task as he remains undefeated through his first five MLS starts, including a six-save effort in his last away match at Vancouver. New England's backline has conceded just three goals from open play in the last five games and received a boost last Sunday with the returns of center back Henry Kessler and right back Brandon Bye from injury.
