Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids announced today the club has acquired midfielder Ralph Priso, $1.025 million in General Allocation Money (GAM), a 2023 international roster slot and a natural First-Round pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft from Toronto FC in exchange for midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye. Colorado will receive $350,000 in 2022 GAM, $425,000 in 2023 GAM and $250,000 in either 2023 or 2024 GAM depending on Kaye's roster status in 2023. Both clubs will retain a percentage of Priso's and Kaye's sell-on values.
"Ralph is one of the most talented, young midfielders in MLS," said Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive VP & General Manager. "We're delighted to welcome him to the club and believe he can develop into a core piece of our team's midfield with his skillset."
"Mark played an important part in our team's rise to the top of the West last season and was a model representative of our club off the pitch. We're grateful to him for his contributions and wish him all the best in this next chapter of his career."
Priso, 19, arrives in Colorado after spending the past three seasons with Toronto FC where he made his professional debut in 2020 as a Homegrown Player. The central midfielder made 33 appearances and registered two goals across all competitions for the Reds, including the MLS regular season, MLS Playoffs, Concacaf Champions League and Canadian Championship, winning the 2020 edition with the club. A native of Toronto, Canada, Priso joined TFC's academy in 2017 and went on to represent Canada at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, playing in all three games of the group stage.
Kaye joined the Rapids in July 2021 from LAFC and went on to make 36 appearances across all competitions for the club, recording four goals and two assists, and helping Colorado finish atop the Western Conference for the first time in its history during the 2021 season.
