Reno Aces Game Notes

May 18, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

Today's Game: The Reno Aces will look to RHP Taylor Clarke in game two of the road trip as they look to respond from an 8-2 loss Thursday night. Clarke enters tonight's contest with a 3-5 record, winning two of his last three starts. Rey Fuentes, who joined the team last night coming off of the Disabled List, should bring both the defense and offense a spark. The speedy outfielder came up with huge defensive plays last night and homered.

About Last Night: The road trip through Albuquerque began with an 8-2 loss at Isotopes Park. Right-hander Kris Medlen was tagged for his fifth loss of the season, moving Reno to a record of 17-24 on the year. Medlen went 5.1 innings, allowed five earned runs on eight hits and struck out five. Offensively, the Aces scattered nine hits, but were held to just two runs. Michael Perez and Rey Fuentes each hit solo home runs Thursday night.

Welcome Back: Rey Fuentes was activated off the Disabled List last night and made his 2018 Aces debut in left field. Fuentes finished his first game back (1-for-4) with a home run. Last season with the Aces, Fuentes hit .343 in 45 games before being recalled by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The last time Fuentes hit a MiLB home run was on September 1, 2015, as a member of the Omaha Storm Chasers (989 days).

Reinheimer Hits: With a 2-for-4 night, Jack Reinheimer now has 314 hits as a member of the Aces, good for third all-time. The only two players to have more hits in an Aces uniform are Cole Gillespie (399) and Mike Jacobs (343).

Reinheimer Aces Hits by year

2016: 144 - 28 2B, 7 3B, 2 HR

2017: 134 - 19 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR

2018: 36 - 5 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR

Dubious Achievement Awards: Few Aces players are amongst the League's Top-5 categories in the Pacific Coast League. The ones that do find themselves in the top-5 would like to work their way out. Jared Miller is second in the league with 26 walks allowed. Taylor Clarke and Kris Medlen are tied for second with five losses and the pitching staff ranks fourth to last in team ERA (5.25). Thankfully for the Aces, they will face the bottom three teams in ERA - Salt Lake (5.86), Albuquerque (5.88) and Las Vegas (6.62) this month.

High-flying: The Next Level Tour takes inspiration from the game-changing progression and breakthrough ramp technology first dreamed up at Travis Pastrana's "Pastranaland" compound, perfected at Nitro World Games and now coming to Reno. Tonight, at Greater Nevada Field, the Next Level Tour will take to the skies. Tickets are available at nitrocircus.com or at the Greater Nevada Field Box Office.

That was quick: Tuesday's game was played in two hours and three minutes, nine minutes faster than the shortest nine-inning home game in franchise history. On September 5, 2009, the Aces and Fresno Grizzlies completed their game in 2:12 at Aces Ballpark. The shortest nine-inning game ever came in Fresno on May 4, 2016 (1:57).
