Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades scored all six runs early to lift them ahead to a 6-2 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Thursday night at Heritage Financial Park.
Aaron Palensky opened up the scoring with a solo home run off Andry Lara (0-3) in the second inning. Palensky is tied for the South Atlantic League lead with eight home runs and now has six in his last six games.
The 'Gades lead didn't last long as Nick Shumpert crushed a solo blast off Tyrone Yulie on the first pitch of the third to tie the game at one. Yulie allowed just one run in 4.2 innings while striking out five.
Hudson Valley responded with a five-run third inning off Lara to surge ahead 6-1. After Lara retired the first two batters, the next seven men reached safely. Alexander Vargas singled and Grant Richardson walked to place runners on first and second. With Caleb Durbin batting, both runners stole second and third base to place themselves in scoring position.
Durbin lashed a single into left field to score Vargas and place runners on the corners. The next batter, Antonio Gómez, blasted a three-run home run to open up the game to 5-1. Spencer Henson doubled and Palensky drove him home to complete the Renegades scoring.
Danny Watson (2-1) entered in the fifth and struck out five in 1.2 scoreless innings. Carlos Gomez allowed a run in 2.0 innings after Watson, and Harrison Cohen got the last two outs of the game on strikeouts to seal the victory. The Blue Rocks left 15 runners on the basepaths, while the Renegades pitching staff held Wilmington to hit just 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Wilmington left the bases loaded three times in the contest.
Hudson Valley continues its series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Heritage Financial Park on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 5:45. The Renegades will send RHP Zach Messinger (0-1, 2.10) to the hill, opposite of LHP Dustin Saenz (1-1, 3.86) for the Blue Rocks.
