Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (8/4/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Tri-City ValleyCats on Tuesday evening by a score of 1-0 at Dutchess Stadium.

Both offenses combined for just seven hits on the night as Hudson Valley's and Tri-City's pitchers put in strong efforts on the mound. The Renegades best chance came in the bottom of the second inning as first baseman Nic Wilson doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. But Tri-City starting pitcher Rogelio Armenteros induced designated hitter Hector Montes into grounding out to ValleyCats shortstop Antonio Nunez, who threw out Wilson at home trying to score.

Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Roel Ramirez posted his best start of the season as he tossed six shutout innings for the Renegades while allowing just two hits and struck out five batters. Ramirez recorded 13 straight outs at one point in the game as well.

The lone run for Tri-City came in the top of the ninth as Renegades relief pitcher Luis Urena (0-2) hit left fielder Aaron Mizell to begin the inning. After Mizell moved to second on a ground ball, designated hitter Hector Roa drove him in on a RBI single and gave the ValleyCats the 1-0 lead. Zac Grotz picked up the save for Tri-City after pitching a clean bottom of the ninth inning.

The win went to Tri-City reliever Alex Winkleman (4-0) as he threw three innings and did not allow a run, while striking out four batters. Urena took the loss as he allowed one run off one hit in three innings pitched.

With the result, the Renegades fell to 20-23 while the ValleyCats improved their record to 25-19.

Notes: Tuesday night was the first time that Renegades pitcher Roel Ramirez went more than five innings in a start without giving up a run. And it was the fifth time in 2015 that Ramirez has thrown six innings in a game with giving up two runs or less. He now sees his ERA drop to 2.32 with 38.2 innings pitched in eight starts.

Hudson Valley concludes their three-game series against the Tri-City ValleyCats on Wednesday, August 5th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Wednesday is "Latin Heritage Night" at Dutchess Stadium. Call 845-838-0094, or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
