Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced a personnel move Tuesday afternoon with the promotion of Gareth Markey to Vice President; Facilities. Markey ascends to the role formerly held by Dan Beaulieu, who has transitioned into a seasonal role as the head groundskeeper upon his retirement at the conclusion of the calendar year.

Markey, a native of Chelmsford, Mass. and resident of Hudson, NH, is in the midst of his 16th season as a member of the Spinners organization. After starting his career as an intern with the organization, Gareth has played a role in the merchandise department, before entering his most recent role, overseeing the game day staff and managing the concessions operation. He is the organization's de facto technology department and had already played a role in the facility management department and group ticketing operation.

"Gareth has been an invaluable member of the organization," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "He has been the ultimate team player, assisting in numerous facets of the organization and contributing to the success of the team over the past decade and a half. We look forward to his ascension to this new role."

Beaulieu, a Westford resident, has been with the team since its inception in 1996, when he started with the team as an usher. He has worked tirelessly to ensure LeLacheur Park is as beautiful as the day it opened throughout his career maintaining the facility.

"Dan has admirably stepped up and really taken over the grounds operation since assuming the role this spring," said Bawmann. "His experience with the organization, with the field and with the community has been an asset for the club nearly since the club's inception."

Beaulieu will continue to maintain and perfect the playing surface at LeLacheur Park through the end of the calendar year before his full retirement becomes official.

"It has been a great run with Dan and he certainly has put Gareth in a great position to continue forward," said Bawmann. "We are certainly going to miss Dan at the ballpark in a full-time role and hope he continues to be a familiar face for years to come.
