
Black Bears Lose to Doubledays 8-3

The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated 8-3 by the Auburn Doubledays on Tuesday night at Monongalia County Ballpark. With the loss, West Virginia falls to 23-21 overall this season while Auburn improves to 21-22 with the victory.
After both teams put up a scoreless frame in the first, Auburn jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second inning on three hits and an error. West Virginia got on the board in the third inning, which started with a single by C Christian Kelley followed by a fielding error, allowing SS Logan Ratledge to reach safely. 2B Kevin Kramer then ripped a double down the left field line, scoring both runners to cut the Auburn lead to 4-2.
Auburn scored another run in the top of the sixth when Ian Sagdal lined a home run off the right field foul pole to give the Doubledays a 5-2 lead. Kelley answered back for the Black Bears in the bottom half with an RBI single up the middle, bringing home RF Ryan Nagle to cut the lead to 5-3. From that point on, the Black Bears were held scoreless and Auburn increased their lead in the eighth inning. The Doubledays crossed three more runs to extend their lead to 8-3.
SP Seth McGarry took the loss on Tuesday night after striking out six and allowing four runs, (all in the second inning), three hits over 5.0 innings pitched. RP Jerry Mulderig entered the game in the ninth and registered a perfect inning including two strikeouts. Auburn's Erick Fedde picked up the win (4-1) after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) and five hits.
Kramer was the hottest hitter in the Black Bears lineup as he finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two doubles. Kelley and 1B Albert Baur also finished with two hits apiece in the game.
The Black Bears and Doubledays will wrap up the series on Wednesday evening at Monongalia County Ballpark with a scheduled first pitch of 7:05 p.m. Wednesday is Bark in the Park as fans are encouraged to bring their furry friends to the ballpark to enjoy a night of fun. Tickets must be purchased for each dog for $5.00 in addition to a ticket for the owner(s).
