Ontario Reign News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Stockton Thunder, 7-1, Friday evening before a crowd of 5,805 fans at Stockton Arena.
The Reign opened scoring only 28 seconds into the game and with their first shot of the night. Defenseman Shawn Germain found the corner of the net with his shot from the left wing side. Right wing Jon Rheault picked up the assist, and the Reign took their first lead of the game.
Ontario added two more goals to the board in the first period. The first came on the power play from defenseman Andrew Martens. Martens received a feed from center Tim Kraus, and sent a one-timer past Stockton netminder Bryan Pitton on his blocker side. Forward Greg Hogeboom also registered an assist. Right wing Tony Voce extended the Reign lead to three goals when he received a feed in the slot and sent the puck over Pitton's glove and into the top shelf at 16:51. Left wing Peter Lenes and Shawn Germain claimed the assists and the Reign took their 3-0 lead into the second period.
The Thunder pulled Bryan Pitton and put Andrew Perugini between the pipes to start the second period in hopes of shifting the game's momentum, but the Reign extended their lead to four goals just 1:40 into the period on a power play. Greg Hogeboom notched his second point of the night when he was left open in the slot and beat Perugini with assists from Adam Henrich and defenseman David Walker. Less than two minutes later, Tony Voce scored his second goal of the game during another Ontario power play. Voce managed to squeeze the puck past Perguini with a sharp angle shot before he could slide over to cover the net. Forward Dwight King and Andrew Martens grabbed the assists, and Ontario took a 5-0 lead.
Stockton finally got on the board at 11:55 in the second with a power play goal. Thunder captain Craig Valette got off a one-timer with a feed from right wing Kelly Czuy behind the net. Center Adam Henrich answered back with another Ontario power play goal less than two minutes later. Henrich received a feed from John Rheault and fired off a one-timer that beat Perugini on his glove side. Center Jon Francisco picked up an assist on the play, which extended the Reign's lead to five goals. Henrich's goal closed out the second period scoring, and the clubs headed into the final period of play with the Thunder trailing the Reign 6-1.
Jon Rheault put up another goal for Ontario with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation. Jon Francisco and Adam Henrich claimed the assists on the Reign's fifth power play goal of the game (making them five-for-five on the power play for the night) when Rheault snapped the puck through the five-hole, giving Ontario a six goal lead. Goaltender Curtis Darling kept the puck out of the net for the remainder of play, giving Ontario their second victory of the season with a final score of Reign 7, Thunder 1.
