Toledo Walleye News Release

After three periods of scoreless hockey, the Walleye and Trenton Devils needed overtime before Jean Claude Sawyer's blast from the blue line at 3:53 of the extra session gave Toledo the 1-0 win.

The Walleye started the night third in the league on the power play at 28.6 percent (6-for-21), but had no success until Sawyer's game-winner. Toledo was 0-for-8 with the man advantage prior to overtime, and failed to score with a two-man advantage for 1:55 with just under ten minutes remaining in regulation.

For Toledo, goalie Alec Richards turned away all 26 Devils shots for his first career professional shutout. Dave Caruso was just as strong in net for Trenton and had saved the first 43 Toledo shots before he was finally beat on the game-winner.

After playing their first five games of the 2009-10 season at home the Walleye will hit road, playing games in Reading on Thursday, October 29 and at Kalamazoo on Saturday, October 31. The Fish will return to Lucas County Arena for the first of seven November home games on Wednesday, November 4. Click to view the November schedule and get your tickets today!
