Alaska Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS -- In a game that featured four game misconducts and 157 minutes in penalties, Alaska saw a 2-1 first period lead evaporate in a 4-3 loss to Las Vegas before 3,372 Friday night at Orleans Arena.

The Aces dropped to 4-1 on the season, one half-game behind Idaho, who remained unbeaten with a 3-2 road win at Utah. Meanwhile, the Wranglers earned their first win of the season and only their second victory against Alaska in the last 11 meetings between the two clubs. The rubber match of the three-game series will be played tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. AT, with live coverage beginning with the Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show at 5:45 p.m.

Scott Burt gave the Aces a 1-0 lead when he went coast-to-coast to score the team's fifth shorthanded goal of the season at 8:44 of the first period after an errant pass eluded Vegas forward Shay Stephenson. The Wranglers came back to score on the same power play when Adam Miller's shot appeared to be deflected on its way past Alaska starter Sebastian Dahm. John Lammers set up Colin Hemingway for a power play goal with 3:58 left in the opening frame that pushed the Aces back in front, but a tip-in by Andrew Orpik 38 seconds later deadlocked the score 2-2 at the break.

Las Vegas owned much of the second period, out-shooting the visitors 19-8 and taking their first lead of the series when Anchorage-born Jason Krischuk slipped behind Alaska's defense, took a centering pass from Orpik, deked Dahm, and flipped in a backhander at 2:33. Six minutes later, Josh Prudden rifled a wrist shot past Dahm's blocker with the Wranglers on a two-man advantage.

Trailing 4-2 entering the final 20 minutes, Alaska managed just one shot in the period's first six minutes, but aided by Vegas penalties, gained momentum and pulled within 4-3 when Lammers scored on a rebound with 5:30 remaining just after the power plays had expired. A five-minute major assessed against Stephenson gave the Aces another chance on the power play down the stretch, but their last opportunity to tie the game was foiled when Lammers broke his stick attempting a one-timer with 20 seconds left.
