ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (29-15-3-4), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, survived a thrilling 5-4 shootout win over the Alaska Aces (22-19-3-2) in front of a sellout crowd of 9,395 on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The Aces opened scoring in the first period during a goalmouth scramble that resulted in Tim Coffman backhanding a shot over a sprawled Daniel Spence at 9:17.

The Reign got on the board Matt Register sent a pass from the far half-wall to Robert Czarnik, who wristed the puck into the top right corner of the net with Rocco Carzo screening Troy Redmann at 10:10.

A few minutes later, Ontario went to the power-play, and after Register sent a breakout pass ahead for Tristan King, King threaded the puck through the skates of an Aces defender to Matt White, who drove to the net and beat Redmann at 12:57.

White struck again on the man advantage for Ontario in the second period off a cross-ice one-timer from King than rocketed through the pads of Redmann at 8:42.

Alaska countered with two power-play goals in the third, with the first from Brendan Connolly at 0:53, and the second from Bryan Cameron at 5:07 to even the score at 3-3.

The Reign gained a momentary lead at 15:45 when Judd Blackwater jammed the puck underneath Redmann, but the Aces responded with a goal from Coffman at 17:49 to force overtime. Neither team scored in the extra period, resulting in a shootout.

After the Alaska took a 2-1 lead in the shootout in the first three rounds, Dennis Brown scored for Ontario with a dazzling move around Redmann, and in the sixth round Maxim Kitsyn snapped a shot past the glove of Redmann. The game then fell down to Spence to stop Colten Hayes, and the Reign goalie was equal to the task, splaying across the ice to knock the puck away from the Aces defenseman with his blocker to seal the victory for the Reign.

Spence finished the night with 24 saves for Ontario in the win; Redmann took the shootout loss with 24 stops.
