Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK - Two disallowed goals and a three-goal deficit proved too much for the Tulsa Oilers to overcome on Saturday night as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Quad City Mallards in front of 5,760 at the BOK Center. The Oilers suffered their third straight home loss and have only three wins in their last ten games.

Less than four minutes into the opening period, the Oilers appeared to strike first for the second straight night. Tommy Mele burned down the left-wing and went full speed toward the Mallards' net before crashing into Quad City goalie Evan Mosher. The puck slid across the goal line but referee Brett Steva immediately waved it off and called Mele for goaltender interference. At the 15:40 mark of the period, Tulsa captain Nathan Lutz was booked for tripping and the Mallards were able to cash in on the ensuing power play. Mario Lamoureux, Quad City's leading scorer, wired a wrist shot over the glove of Kevin Carr and into the upper corner of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Just 61 seconds into the middle frame, Carr was pulled out of position and Quad City forward Jeff Lee sent a shot through the Tulsa defense to give the Mallards a 2-0 edge. A hooking minor to T.J. Caig and a tripping call against Mele gave the Mallards a two-man advantage and Matt Duffy's blast at 7:28 provided a three-goal cushion for Quad City. Moments later, the Oilers thought they had finally solved Mosher on a slap shot by Dave Pszenyczny. With fans celebrating, the goal light on, and Pszenyczny's arms raised in the air, there was doubt in the minds of the officials as to whether or not the puck actually went in the net. A lengthy discussion led to a call of "no goal" and still found themselves trailing 3-0. A bouncing backhand by Jon Booras at 18:42 somehow squeezed past Mosher and the Oilers trailed by just two goals going into the second intermission.

Tulsa outshot Quad City 12-6 over the final 20 minutes but Mosher was equal to the task and ended the evening with 30 saves. A Nathan Lutz goal at 19:14 proved too little, too late for the Oilers who fell to 2-2-1 this season against the Mallards. Mike Monfredo notched assists on all three Quad City goals and Lamoureux finished with a goal and an assist to help the Mallards just their second regulation win in 11 all-time trips to the BOK Center.

The Oilers play the first of eight consecutive road contests in Brampton on Monday afternoon and will not return home until March 13.
