Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE (July 2, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC today announced that it will host an exclusive viewing party at THE NINETY in conjunction with Seattle Sounders FC for the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) upcoming match against Japan in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Final on Sunday, July 5 at 4:00 p.m. PT. This event is invite only to special guests and VIPs.
Reign FC goalkeeper Hope Solo allowed just one goal and recorded five shutouts in six matches to bring her career shutout tally to 88. She also now has 135 wins with the USWNT, the most by a goalkeeper in U.S. history. With win over Germany, Solo also tied Brianna Scurry for most wins in World Cup play at 10.
Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe has been a creative force for the Red, White and Blue, tallying two goals and assist through four matches. After serving a yellow card suspension in the quarterfinal match against China PR, Rapinoe returned to the pitch for the USWNT and was instrumental maintaining pressure on Germany throughout the match.
The USA advanced to the Finals on Tuesday, June 30 with a 2-0 win over Germany. Carli Lloyd confidently netted a penalty kick to give USA the lead before assisting on Kelley O'Hara's 84th-minute strike - the first of her international career - to secure the U.S. win.
Hope Solo and the USA back line continued to shut down opponents and has now kept a scoreless streak for 513 straight minutes (a span of more than five-and-a-half matches) in this year's World Cup, the longest clean sheet streak in U.S. World Cup history.
Japan narrowly advanced to the Finals after defeating England 2-1 thanks to a stoppage time own goal by English defender Laura Bassett.
Doors to THE NINETY will open an hour prior to kick-off at 3:00 p.m. PT. Food and beverages will be available and fans will also have the opportunity to purchase select items from the #SRFCUSA Collection.
Registrants will need to bring their tickets as well as a photo ID for entry. Please note that this event is open to minors.
THE NINETY, located in the Pioneer Square neighborhood at the base of Seattle Sounders FC headquarters, is a cultural hub of soccer and gathering place for all soccer fans to celebrate the world's game. The space showcases the history of Sounders FC while providing another avenue for the club to better engage its fans.
