Sky Blue FC Heads West for a Friday Night Fixture with Portland Thorns FC

Sky Blue FC News Release
Portland, Ore. (Thursday, July 2, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (1-5-4, 7 points) has made the trip west for a critical midseason match-up with Portland Thorns FC (2-3-4, 10 points) on Friday night, beginning a home-and-home series with Portland that will be resumed next Saturday night when the two clubs meet at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, New Jersey.
"This trip is always a highlight of the season, playing in Portland with the atmosphere and environment that they have created," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "Historically, we have done pretty well in terms of putting in good performances here, and we are looking to carry on that tradition on Friday night."
This contest marks the first meeting of the season between Sky Blue FC and Portland, and it holds crucial implications. Currently, the two sides are on the bottom of the NWSL Table, so the next two games will play a very important role in how each team's second half of the season plays out. With two wins and six points, a consecutive match victor would find itself right back in the thick of the playoff hunt. Two losses by either club would put it in a very dangerous position as the season heads towards the final third.
Sky Blue FC is starting to see some familiar faces return to its roster. Two-year starter CoCo Goodson joined the lineup once again last week against the Chicago Red Stars after flirting with retirement, and the team is hopeful to have the services of Australian National Team players Caitlin Foord and Sam Kerr for the first time this year. The duo recently completed participation in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.
After Friday night's pairing with Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC will return home to Yurcak Field on Saturday, July 11th, to host Portland in a homecoming game that is slated to include all World Cup participants, such as U.S. National Team players Christie Rampone and Kelley O'Hara.
Individual game tickets for Sky Blue FC home matches are on sale now. Fans who order tickets for the July 11th match prior to the conclusion of Sunday night's FIFA Women's World Cup Final can save $5 per ticket by using the code SHEBELIEVES at tickets.skybluefc.com or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
