Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Pit Spitters ended their home slate in the regular season with a 5-3 win over the Kalamazoo Growlers.

The Pit Spitters swept the Growlers for the second time this season, both at home. They finish 8-4 against the Growlers, 5-1 at home.

Mario Camilletti delivered the big hit tonight. With two outs and two on in the bottom of the eighth, he singled to right field, scoring a pair of runs to break open a 3-3 tie. He went just 1-5 on the night, but his only hit was the biggest of the night.

Once again, Chris Monroe put the team on his back. After he tied the game at 2-2 yesterday, he tied the game twice today. He singled a run home in the third inning to tie the game 1-1. Then in the fifth down 2-1, he tripled home Evan Maday to tie the game once again. Adding a walk in the seventh, Monroe went 2-3 with 2 RBI's and his first triple this year. In his last three games, Monroe is 8-13 with three doubles, a triple, a home run and 13 RBI's.

After Monroe tied the game with his triple, Zeb Roos singled him home on the next pitch to give his team a 3-2 lead. Kalamazoo scored the tying run in the seventh, setting up Camilletti's heroics in the eighth.

The Pit Spitters walked six more times tonight, pushing their season total to 401 walks. They are just the third team in Northwoods League history to walk over 400 times, joining Bismarck (411) and Waterloo (418), both accomplishing the feat in 2019.

The Pit Spitters 177 stolen bases ranks fifth all time.

Up Next

The Pit Spitters finish the regular season on the road in Battle Creek with postseason seeding on the line. The Pit Spitters need to sweep the Bombers and they need the Growlers to sweep the Kokomo Jackrabbits to clinch home field advantage in the first round. If the Pit Spitters get home field, they will play the first round at home on Monday and Tuesday (if necessary). If Kokomo gets home field, Traverse City will play at home on Sunday.
