FARGO, ND -- The Sioux City Explorers jumped on the RedHawks early in the first inning, and used a big 3-run third inning to assist them in a 8-6 win and snap the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks over three-game winning streak.

Michael Lang roped a single to right in the first at-bat of the game, and Nate Samson then took Luis Sanz's fastball deep, hitting the left field foul polefor a two-run home-run and an early 2-0 Explorers lead.

Fargo-Moorhead answered with one run of their own in the bottom of the second, when Tim Alberts hit a RBI single to bring in Nic Jackson.

Third inning is when the 2,646 fans (who remained after the game was delayed by 1 hour and 45 minutes due to rain) saw the most action. Explorers extended their lead to 5-1 in the top third, when Samson found another gap, Andres Perez singled as well, and Tommy Mendonca walked. Luke Murton followed with a base hit to the left field, bringing in two, and Rene Tosoni one with his hit.

The RedHawks were able to decrease the Explorers' lead to 5-3, after Sawyer Carroll singled, Ronnie Bourquin walked, C.J. Retherford got himself an RBI bringing in Carroll with a single and Jackson followed with one of his own to bring in Bourquin.

Sioux City extended the lead to 7-3 with a pair of runs in the seventh inning, but the RedHawks pulled to within one in the bottom half of the frame. Bourquin led off with a solo home run, Petey Paramore tagged an RBI single and Alberts notched his second RBI of the game with a long sacrifice fly. It was not enough though, as the Explorers added a run on a bases loaded walk to Peter Barrows to make the final score 8-6.

Sioux City starting pitcher Patrick Johnson (2-1) picked up the win, while RedHawks starter Luis Sanz (0-1) took the loss. Explorers closer Chris Bodishbaugh earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning, his second of the season.

The series will close up tomorrow at 1pm. Fans can purchase their tickets at fmredhawks.com or by calling 701-235-6161.
