Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND -- Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks starting pitcher Jake Laber outdueled fellow ex-NDSU hurler John Straka on Sunday afternoon as the RedHawks edged the Sioux City Explorers 2-1 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. The 'Hawks will now hit the road to play four-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Two balks by Laber in the third inning allowed the Explorers to score their only run of the game. Former RedHawk Todd Jennings singling to left field, Michael Lang moved Jennings to third, a balk allowed Jennings cross the home plate to open the score 1-0 for Explorers.
The answer by Fargo-Moorhead came in the fourth inning, when the RedHawks scored two runs to turn the game in their favor. Sawyer Carroll led things off with a base hit to the right field. Ronnie Bourquin found a gap in the right field on the very next pitch for a double and C.J. Retherford then brought Carroll in on a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1. Petey Paramore's base hit to left field brought Bourquin in safely as well, and the 'Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the ballgame.
