Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
WICHITA, KS - Coming into game two of the three game series Anthony Capra of Wichita had allowed only one earned run in 21.2 IP and just nine hits in his three starts. When the game was over the Gary South Shore RailCats set season highs in runs, hits and margin of victory in the young season running away from the Wichita Wingnuts 15-0 Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Capra who would give up nine hits and nine runs only four earned would not see the fifth inning as he was chased in the fourth.
The RailCats jumped out in front in the first with Danny Pulfer leading off with a triple. Drew Martinez then singled in Pulfer to make it 1-0 RailCats. Josh Romanski then singled to right to put runner at first and second. Then Ryan Babineau reached on a fielders choice that forced out Romanski at second. During the at bat of Jeremy Hamilton Ryan Babineau got caught in a rundown but was able to buy enough time for Martinez to score from third to make it 2-0.
The RaiCats went 1-2-3 in the next inning but it was the quiet before the storm as the RailCats scored and scored often over the next three innings. In the third still facing starter Anthony Capra the RailCats came alive with two outs. Drew Martinez singled then was followed by Josh Romanski who took Capra deep to right for a two run homer to make it 4-0. It was the first homerun for Romanski and the first for the Cats since May 17th at St. Paul. Jeremy Hamilton added another run in the inning with an RBI single scoring Ryan Babineau who singled in front of him to up the lead to 5-0.
The RailCats would then score four more in the fourth highlighted by a pair of bases loaded walks by Danny Pulfer and Ryan Babineau off of Capra to force the Wingnuts ace from the game. The RailCats were not done adding another six in the fifth inning off of Wichita reliever Matt Robertson with Babineau and Romanski again providing highlights with RBI singles.
Stephen Hiscock was outstanding for the RailCats providing the 10th quality start of the season and the 15th time the RailCats staff has gone at least 5.0 IP. Hiscock (1-1) got the win while Capra (3-1) was charged with the loss. The RailCats pen tossed three scoreless frames behind Ethan Gibbons and Chuck Fontana.
The two teams will play the series finale Sunday at 2:05pm with RHP Stephen Bougher going for the RailCats while RHP Tim Brown goes for Wichita. The game can be heard on WEFM and online at RailCatsbaseball.com.
