Record Breaking Day for Saints in 16-3 Thumping of Jackals

LITTLE FALLS, NJ (June 1, 2014) - The St. Paul Saints record book added a new name on Sunday and a number of career highs were set as the Saints beat up on the New Jersey Jackals 16-3 at Yogi Berra Stadium.

Henry Wrigley led a log jammed offensive output as he set a career high with five hits and seven RBI going 5-6 with a double, homer, seven RBI and a run scored. Joe Bonfe set a Saints record by scoring five runs going 2-3 with a double, triple, three RBI and five runs scored. A total of 48 Saints players had scored four runs including Brandon Tripp on May 29 at Rockland. Evan Bigley was 3-5 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. In all, the 2-3-4 hitters went a combined 10-14 with 14 RBI and nine runs scored.

Not to be overshadowed was the career high in strikeouts set by Saints pitcher Robert Coe who fanned eight in 7.0 sterling innings allowing just two solo homers on four hits while walking one.

With the game tied at two in the fifth Carlos Escobar singled with one out. With two outs Bonfe was hit by a pitch and Bigley drove them both home with a double giving the Saints a 4-2 lead.

In the sixth the Saints blew the game wide open with their highest scoring inning of the season putting up six runs while sending 10 men to the plate. Jake Taylor led off with a solo homer to left, his first of the season, to give the Saints a 5-2 lead. Joey Becker reached on an error by third baseman Steve Nikorak. Devin Thaut and Escobar walked to load the bases. With one out Bonfe walked to force in a run and make it 6-2. Bigley knocked home a pair with a single and Wrigley followed that with a two-run double for a 10-2 lead.

Wrigley added RBI number four in the eighth with an RBI single to drive home Bonfe and give the Saints an 11-2 lead.

In the ninth the Saints sent nine men to the plate and plated five runs. With one out Thaut doubled and with two outs Brandon Wikoff walked. Bonfe tripled off the top of the left field wall to drive home two and give the Saints a 13-3 lead. Bigley was plunked which gave Wrigley an opportunity for his fifth hit of the day. He didn't miss driving one over the left field wall, his fourth of the season, which gave him personal bests on the hits and RBI side and put Bonfe into the Saints record books all by himself. The last Saints player to collect five hits in a game was Argelis Nunez on August 9, 2011 vs. Wichita. The seven RBI were two shy of Brian Buchanan's team record of nine. The last player to have seven RBI was Brent Krause who collected eight on June 25, 2008 vs. Lincoln.

The Saints now move on to Stade de Municipal and begin game one of a four game series against the Quebec les Capitales on Monday evening at 6:05 p.m. central. The Saints send RHP Nick Barnese (1-1, 4.20) against les Capitales RHP Leondy Perez (0-1, 5.91). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
