RedHawks Soar Away With Victory Over Grizzlies

August 1, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA - Whether or not the Fresno Grizzlies rolled out the welcome mat for the Oklahoma RedHawks didn't matter, because the team from the Midwest made itself welcome anyway.

A two-run first inning for the RedHawks set the tone for the evening as Oklahoma went on to steal the first game of the series between the two teams in a 9-3 victory over Fresno.

It was RedHawks (55-54) designated hitter Victor Diaz who gave Grizzlies (57-55) pitchers nightmares at the plate as he went 3 for 4 on the night with three RBIs, two doubles and a home run.

The lone rally Fresno could put together was during the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Grizzlies scored three runs that brought them to within two runs of the RedHawks. Fresno's Scott McClain hit his team-high 26th home run of the season, a three-run blast that lifted his RBI total to 87 on the season.

But that was all the Grizzlies could manage against Oklahoma starter Mike Wood (9-3), who pitched eight innings of ball, allowing only five Grizzlies hits while picking up the win.

Fresno starter Pat Misch (2-5), despite throwing only an inning, was handed his fifth loss of the season after giving up two runs in his lone inning.

The Grizzlies and RedHawks will continue on to the second game of their four-game series Thursday as Fresno will send Matt Kinney (7-9, 4.36) to the mound. Oklahoma will counter will right-hander Robinson Tejeda (0-1, 7.20).

Tomorrow will mark the second to last Thirsty Thursday (presented by 104.1 FM) for the Grizzlies, as fans will be able to buy 12 oz. draft beers for just $1 through the end of the fifth inning, while 12 oz. sodas will be available all game long for only $1. The Grizzlies Community Fund kicks off Community Fund Weekend tomorrow with the Grizzlies Hat Raffle. Fans can purchase raffle tickets to win a game worn hat by their favorite Grizzly, with all proceeds benefiting the Junior Grizzlies.
