Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Yordany Ramirez' RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth plated Peter Ciofrone from third with the winning run in the Portland Beavers' 4-3 win over the Nashville Sounds before 5,028 Wednesday night at PGE Park.
The Beavers (45-67) rallied to tie the game in the seventh and put the leadoff batter on base in the ninth as Ciofrone reached on a two-base error. Ciofrone later moved to third on a groundout and came in to score when Ramirez pushed a single over the head of the shortstop and into shallow left-center.
Ramirez had three hits and Pete Laforest hit his 27th home run to lead Portland.
Scott Cassidy (2-2) was credited with his second win of the year for the Beavers, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Luther Hackman (1-1) was charged with an unearned run and a loss for his efforts in the bottom of the ninth.
Trailing by a pair, the Beavers matched the Sounds in the bottom of the seventh. Laforest got Portland to within a run with a solo homer and Frank Menechino doubled and scored on a game-tying RBI double by Ciofrone. The Beavers, however, left the bases loaded and the game tied at 3-3.
Earlier, Laynce Nix and Andy Abad hit solo home runs as the Sounds (67-44) built a 3-1 lead by the fourth inning.
The Beavers play host to the Sounds again Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. It is the team's annual Mullet Night.
NOTES: Earlier in the day, outfielder Mike Sansoe and Drew Macias were transferred to Class AA San Antonio. In other moves, left-handed pitcher Will Startup, acquired in a trade from Atlanta on Tuesday, and Terrmel Sledge, optioned to Portland July 25, were added to the active roster ... right-handed pitcher Robert Woodard was transferred to Portland from Class A Eugene and is scheduled to make a spot start for the Beavers when they take on the Sounds Thursday night.
