August 1, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - It's getting tougher and tougher for Pacific Coast League pitchers to ignore Cody Ransom.
After batting .309 with seven home runs in July, Ransom cranked out a pair of longballs, including a fifth inning grand slam, as Round Rock rode five homers to a 9-5 win over Colorado Springs on Wednesday.
Tim Raines, Jr. went 3-for-4 with a homer, Josh Anderson put up a triple and a home run and Danny Ardoin picked up his first home run of the season as the Express downed the PCL Pacific Northern Division leading Sky Sox at The Dell Diamond.
Right-hander Juan Gutierrez allowed five runs on 10 hits and seven strikeouts, earning his fifth win.
Ransom pulled Round Rock to within 3-2 with a solo shot off Mike Esposito in the fourth before Colorado Springs regained the lead in the top of the fifth.
Esposito got two quick outs to start the bottom of the frame before Brooks Conrad and Raines reached on singles. Danny Klassen reached on an error, bringing up Ransom, who entered Wednesday's game with a team-leading 31 multi-hit games.
Ransom worked the count to 2-0 before launching a towering shot onto the leftfield berm, pushing the Express ahead 7-5. Ransom finished the night 2-for-4 and lifted his batting average two points to .272.
Ardoin and Anderson padded the lead with solo shots in the sixth, and Jose Rodriguez struck out three over two shutout relief innings before Stephen Randolph closed out the ninth with a strikeout.
The two teams meet again Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond. The game can be heard on 1260 AM, 1530 AM and at www.roundrockexpress.com.
