Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Bobby Doran allowed one earned run through seven innings and the Oklahoma City RedHawks extended their franchise-record winning streak at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark to 16 games on Monday night, scoring six runs in the first inning en route to a 6-2 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes.
Isotopes starting pitcher Stephen Fife walked four consecutive batters with the bases loaded in the first inning. Fife faced eight batters, walked five, hit one, allowed one hit, retired one batter and was charged with six runs. Fife threw 34 pitches and 26 were balls.
The Topes (67-63) have lost seven in a row, 14 of 18 in August, and 21 of 32 games since the All-Star break. They trail Oklahoma City by seven games in the PCL's American Southern division with 14 games left. They fell into third place and their "tragic" number to get eliminated from the playoffs is eight.
The RedHawks (74-56) had an 11-game home winning streak earlier this season. They haven't lost at home since July 12. Their 42-22 record at home is the best in the PCL. They've won four straight in this series and are 10-5 against the Topes this year.
Chili Buss drove home his 88th run this year with an infield single in the fourth inning. Rusty Ryal singled home a run in the fifth inning. Dee Gordon reached base with two walks and a single, while stealing two bases and extending his PCL league-leading total to 46, which also is an Albuquerque franchise record for a single season.
That was it for the Topes offense as they managed three hits, all singles. In the last 12 road games, Albuquerque has one home run and 21 runs scored.
Blake Johnson (2 2/3 innings), Sean White (3 innings), Onelki Garcia (1 inning) and Peter Moylan (1 inning) were scoreless in relief. They combined to allowed five hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.
The finale of the five-game series is Tuesday night. Jonathan Sanchez starts for Albuquerque. Bobby Doran goes for Oklahoma City. All the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call. Coverage begins at 5:35 Mountain Time and first pitch at 6:05.
