August 19, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: The RedHawks continue their five-game series with Albuquerque at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City has a 3-0 lead in the series and has won a club record 15 straight home games. The RedHawks also own a six-game lead in the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division standings entering tonight's contest.

Last Game: The RedHawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 5-4 win against Albuquerque Sunday evening. A two-run single by Che-Hsuan Lin in the bottom of the second inning gave the RedHawks a 2-0 edge. In the fourth inning, George Springer led off with a home run, and the RedHawks added two more runs on a RBI triple by Jimmy Paredes and a RBI groundout by Lin for a 5-0 lead. The Isotopes scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a double by Eliezer Alfonzo to get on the scoreboard. A RBI single by Matt Angle cut the RedHawks' lead to two runs in the eighth. In the ninth, Albuquerque's Elian Herrera doubled to score Dee Gordon and cut the RedHawks' lead to one. With the tying run in scoring position, Jorge De Leon struck out Alex Castellanos to end the game and earn his third save. Starting pitcher Asher Wojciechowski (8-6) recorded his team-leading eighth win of the season after allowing three runs and seven hits through 7.1 innings.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Bobby Doran looks to build off a strong performance last time out...On Wednesday in Tucson, Doran allowed two runs and three hits over six innings. He retired the side on 10 pitches or less four times and left the game even though he had only thrown 79 pitches. Although he exited with a 6-2 lead, Tucson came back and won 8-6, relegating Doran to a no decision...Over his last 11 innings with OKC, he has allowed two runs and 11 hits...While with the RedHawks, Doran is holding PCL opponents to a .182 average with runners in scoring position...He has left all five of his starts with the RedHawks with the team in the lead. On two occasions he was in line for a win, only to see a lead in the final inning slip away...Doran spent most of this season with Double-A Corpus Christi, pitching in 23 games and starting 13. With the Hooks he was 8-2 with a 3.26 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 94.0 IP. At the time of his promotion, his ERA and 1.17 WHIP each ranked sixth in the Texas League...Doran was selected by Houston in the fourth round of the 2010 draft from Texas Tech University...Tonight will be his first career outing against Albuquerque.

Against the Isotopes: 2013: 9-5 2012: 7-9 All-time: 91-82 In OKC: 52-33

With Sunday's victory, the RedHawks have won 10 of the last 11 meetings against the Isotopes in Bricktown and five of six so far this season, with four wins coming by one run...The RedHawks are hitting .297 against Albuquerque, but the Isotopes have outscored Oklahoma City, 81-72...OKC has hit 13 home runs over the first 14 games between the teams while holding the Isotopes to just five homers...Last season, the Isotopes won nine of the first 12 meetings before the RedHawks ended the season series with a four-game sweep in OKC...Brandon Laird and George Springer have each slugged three homers against the Isotopes and Laird has 10 RBI over 10 meetings...Albuquerque outfielder Matt Angle has worn out the RedHawks, batting .432 with two home runs, eight RBI, and a .563 on-base percentage. He hit .448 against OKC in 2012.

Friendly Confines: The RedHawks now own a club record 15-game winning streak at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, breaking the previous record of 14 straight home wins set last season. During the current streak they are batting .309 (147x475), including .333 (46x138) with runners in scoring position, and have a 2.73 team ERA (41 ER/135.0 IP). The RedHawks also had an 11-game home winning streak earlier this season April 26-May 10. Before last year, the RedHawks recorded only one home winning streak longer than eight games since Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark opened in 1998, and none since 1999. Their 41-22 home record is currently the best in the Pacific Coast League.

High-Water Mark: The team's current six-game lead in first place is the largest of the season. Last night's win also clinched a winning season series, giving the RedHawks the edge in a divisional tiebreaker. One year ago today, the Isotopes led the RedHawks by 5.5 games in the standings. OKC made a late run, and Albuquerque did not clinch the title until the second-to-last day of the season.

Chasing the Crown: Yesterday George Springer belted his 35th homer of the season (16th with OKC) and now owns a four homer lead for the MiLB's Joe Baumann Home Run Award. Springer has gone deep six times in the last 10 games and has hit six of the team's last eight homers. He has collected 100 RBI (fourth in the Minors) and scored 98 runs (tied for third in the Minors) during his time in Triple-A and Double-A combined. He has 39 stolen bases and is the first player in the Minors to hit 30 home runs and steal at least 30 bases since former Oakland Athletics farmhand Grant Desme did so in 2009 (31 HR/40 SB).

The Laird Up There: Brandon Laird is 12-for-27 (.444) over his last seven games, including a homer and three RBI. He is batting .379 (25x66) in August and is first in the PCL with 18 runs scored, tied for first with 19 RBI, and second with 25 hits this month.

Mound Turnaround: After posting a 7.74 ERA through the first seven games of their recently completed West Coast road trip, the RedHawks pitching staff has allowed nine runs over the past four games with a 1.75 ERA (7 ER/36.0 IP) and a .200 average (26x130).

LeBlanc Leaving: The Houston Astros have selected the contract of RedHawks pitcher Wade LeBlanc, making him the fourth reliever called up to Houston since August 7. (None were already on the 40-man roster.) In a corresponding move, the Astros optioned outfielder Marc Krauss to Oklahoma City. Krauss hit .277 with nine homers and 35 RBI over 66 games with the RedHawks earlier this season.

Happy Anniversary: One year ago today, RedHawks skipper Tony DeFrancesco left his post to take over as Houston Astros manager for the remainder of the 2012 season. DeFrancesco guided them to a 16-25 record, including a 15-15 mark over the final month.
