August 19, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
The Padres scored two runs in the ninth inning Sunday but were unable to complete a comeback as the Sacramento River Cats defeated Tucson 5-4 at Raley Field. The Padres have lost their last four games and are now six games back of the division lead.
Brandon Allen launched his 13th home run of the season in the second to put the Padres up 1-0. Sacramento went ahead in the third with three runs on three hits, including a two-run double from Shane Peterson. After Tucson starter Brandon Kloess was relieved for Jason Lane in the fourth, the River Cats added a run on a bases loaded walk from Daric Barton.
Anthony Aliotti's RBI single in the fifth extended Sacramento's lead to 5-1. The Padres trimmed the score to 5-2 in the eighth when Reymond Fuentes scored on Dean Anna' RBI fielder's choice. Daniel Robertson brought around the first run in the ninth with an RBI infield single, followed by Anna's RBI groundout to make it a one-run game. Tucson had two runners in scoring position with two outs when Jonathan Galvez hit a grounder deep in the hole to Andy Parrino. The River Cats shortstop was able to convert the tough play to record the final out the game and seal the win for the River Cats.
Former Tucson and San Diego Padre Andrew Werner won his 11th game of the season for Sacramento, scattering one run on eight hits in six innings. Kloess took the loss for Tucson after surrendering six hits, four runs and two walks in 3.2 innings. Fuentes went 1-for-3 at the plate Sunday and has now hit safely in nine straight games since joining Tucson from Double-A San Antonio.
Next Game: Monday, 7:05 p.m. at Sacramento (Athletics affiliate) - Tucson RHP Burch Smith (4-1, 3.89) vs. Sacramento LHP Carlos Hernandez (0-1, 3.00). Game coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
