RedHawks Sign Ernst, Release Hess

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed RHP Brian Ernst for tonight's game 6:00 p.m. game against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND. Ernst will be the starting pitcher for Fargo-Moorhead this evening. The RedHawks have also released RHP Tyler Hess.

Ernst, 22, recently completed is college career at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. This spring, he was 5-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 13 starts for the Warriors. Ernst pitched 66.2 innings and allowed 28 runs (20 earned) on just 50 hits. He struck out 88 batters and walked 31.

In his four-year college career, Ernst was 16-7 with a 4.07 ERA and one save in 37 games (35 starts). He struck out 201 batters in 172.2 innings pitched. He was an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) selection in his freshman, junior and senior seasons, and is the only player in conference history to strike out 200 batters as a pitcher and collect 200 hits as a position player. He batted .331 with 44 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 114 RBIs and 115 runs scored in 182 games as a first baseman and third baseman.

Hess appeared in ten games for the RedHawks as was 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA.
