Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City-----The Grand Prairie AirHogs defeated the Explorers 5-2 here Saturday to tie the series at a game apiece.

The AirHogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then added another run in the fourth on a solo home run by Andres Rodriguez to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

With the Explorers bats silent, Grand Prairie increased that lead to 5-0 in the sixth when Ryan Pineda connected with a three-run home run.

Starting and winning pitcher Josh Strawn kept the Explorers at bay through seven innings, allowing just four hits and struck out a season high ten.

In the eighth inning off relief pitcher Justin Dowdy the Explorers broke into the scoring column after back-to-back singles by Eliezer Mesa and Sam Judah when Yusuke Inoguchi drove Mesa home with a ground ball out.

The Explorers cut the final margin to 5-2 when newcomer Luke Murton opened up the ninth inning with his first home run as an Explorers. Bryan Pounds then doubled, but was left stranded at third base when the final out was recorded.

The two teams will play the final game of the series Sunday evening at 6:05 at Lewis and Clark Park.
