RedHawks pitching stifles Omaha 1-0
June 10, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Jason Hart's first-pitch homer leading off the 10th inning proved to be the game's only run as three Oklahoma pitchers combined to three-hit the Omaha Royals 1-0 Saturday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Edinson Volquez tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk with nine strikeouts in a no decision. Kevin Walker (4-3) earned the win with two scoreless innings, while Wes Littleton earned his first Triple-A save with a scoreless 10th as Oklahoma improved to 4-0 in extra inning games.
RedHawks pitching allowed just three Omaha baserunners on three hits and a walk in improving to 3-0 in the first series of a 12-game trip.
Oklahoma, 30-32, is two games under .500 for the first time since after a win April 23 when they were 8-10.
The RedHawks drew a season-high nine walks while out-hitting Omaha 6-3, yet four double plays and two runners thrown out on the bases helped keep the game scoreless into extra innings.
Royals lefty J.P. Howell started and pitched the first 2 1/3 innings, allowing one hit but no runs despite five walks. Ryan Baerlocher followed with 6 2/3 strong innings, allowing no runs on two hits. Joe Nelson (1-2) entered in the 10th and allowed Hart's homer, his second since returning to the Rangers' organization June 1.
Oklahoma will pitch righthander Nick Masset Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. CDT against Omaha righty Denny Bautista.
