HEADLINES: Another 1-run win for RedHawks ... Volquez starts tonight ... Hyzdu drives in 4
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Omaha Royals are the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. Last year, they were 72-72 and finished second in the American Conference Northern Division.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their 12-game road trip in Omaha. This is their 62nd game this season, 31st road game and third game against Omaha. The RedHawks are on a stretch where they will play 24 of 32 games on the road May 18-June 18.
LAST GAME: The RedHawks held on for an 8-7 win over Omaha. The Royals pulled within one run in the sixth and ninth. Adam Hyzdu led the RedHawks offensively, going three-for-four with two doubles and four RBIs. Laynce Nix was two-for-four with three RBIs.
VS. OMAHA: The RedHawks are 59-39 all-time against Omaha since the two teams joined the PCL in 1998. The RedHawks are 29-21 against Omaha at Rosenblatt Stadium. The RedHawks have lost only one season series against Omaha since 1998 (1999). They have won the last six season series against the Royals.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Starting pitcher Edinson Volquez makes his 13th start of the season for the RedHawks. He is Texas' No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America. He has three straight quality starts, during which he is 0-1 with a 3.32 ERA (7 ER/19 IP), 17 strikeouts and 10 walks. He has not had a win since May 10 against Sacramento and is 0-4 with a 6.64 ERA (15 ER/20.1 IP) in four road starts. Lefty J.P. Howell starts for Omaha.
STREAKERS: Catcher Nick Trzesniak is on a five-game hitting streak dating back to May 30. He is 6-for-18 (.333) with an RBI during the streak, raising his average from .257 to .269 (12 rise).
STARTING PITCHERS: In the last 11 games, Oklahoma starters have five wins. They have given up 21 runs, 19 earned over 64 innings (2.67 ERA) with 31 walks and 51 strikeouts. RedHawks starters have seven quality starts in the last 11 games.
THREE GAMES UNDER: The RedHawks have not been three games under since they were 9-12 after the games of April 28.
ERRORS: The RedHawks have not committed an error in their last eight games and committed only one error during their eight-game homestand. They committed 13 errors during their 12-game road trip May 18-29.
ROAD WOES: The RedHawks are 10-20 (.333) on the road this year. They were 37-35 (.513) on the road last year. The worst road record in team history was 24-47 (.338) in 2000. It was the second worst road record in the PCL that year.
HOME SWEET HOME: Going back to July 22 of last season, the RedHawks are 39-17 (.696) at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark including 1-1 in last year's playoffs against Nashville. They are 38-16 (.704) at home in regular season games since July 22.
CLOSE GAMES: Twenty-three of Oklahoma 's 29 wins this season have come by four runs or less, including 14 one-run wins. Also, 24 of Oklahoma's 32 losses this season have come by four runs or less. They have nine losses by one run, eight losses by two runs, four losses by three runs and three losses by four runs.
RADIO UPDATE: The RedHawks' flagship station for most games is KEBC 1340 AM. However, there are a few dates the flagship station will change due to scheduling conflicts. The RedHawks will be on AM 1000 KTOK June 10. They will be on KFXY 1640 The Score June 11.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: The RedHawks last 12 games have been decided by three runs or less, including seven one-run games. The RedHawks are 9-3 overall and 6-1 in one-run games in their last 11 games ... Relief pitcher Wes Littleton has stranded six inherited runners (none allowed) in his first five outings as a RedHawk ... The RedHawks were 0-4 in their first four games in which their starter went seven innings or more. However, they have won the last eight games in which the starter went at least seven innings.
