Sidewinders improve to 7-0 on the homestand with 6-1 victory over Bees

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders picked up their seventh straight victory last night with a 6-1 victory over the Salt Lake Bees. The win guarantees the series victory and further cements Tucson's position at the top of the Pacific Southern Division.

CF Chris Young led off the second inning with a solo homer to left-center. It was his first RBI against a southpaw pitcher in 2006. Three batters later, C Robby Hammock reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a RF Donnie Sadler double to give the Sidewinders a 2-0 lead.

Tucson added another run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-0. 2B Alberto Callaspo led the inning off with a double and moved to third on a SS Stephen Drew infield single. DH Carlos Quentin grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, but Callaspo scored on the play.

Chris Carter walked and stole second. He scored on a throwing error by SS Erick Aybar to give Tucson a 4-0 lead.

Salt Lake got on the board in the seventh when C Jeff Mathis led off with a single and moved to third on a 2B Casey Smith single. With runners at the corners, 1B Ryan Budde grounded into a double play to score a run and put the game at 4-1.

The Sidewinders extended the lead in the bottom half of the seventh with two more runs. Drew led off the inning with a double down the left-field line and moved to third on a ground out. LF Scott Hairston singled to left, scoring Drew and extending Tucson's lead to 5-1. Young singled to put runners on first and second. 3B Brian Barden singled to right to score Hairston and give the Sidewinders a 6-1 lead.

LHP Mike Bacsik picked up the win for the Sidewinders. He worked 5 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk along with two strikeouts. LHP Joe Saunders fell to 7-3 on the season with the loss. He allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits, three walks and three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work.
