June 10, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Despite pounding 28 hits in two games and going 2-0 so far in Omaha, the RedHawks have had a pair of cliffhangers at Rosenblatt Stadium, winning Friday night 8-7.

Reliever C.J. Wilson earned his first Triple-A save, stranding the potential tying run at first base in the ninth after allowing two runs to make it a one-run game. On Thursday, in a 5-3 Oklahoma win, Omaha left the potential tying run at second base against Bryan Corey, who was promoted to Texas on Friday.

The 2-5 hitters in Oklahoma's order did all the damage on Friday, as Drew Meyer, Joaquin Arias, Adam Hyzdu and Laynce Nix combined to go 11-for-17 with two walks and eight RBIs against three Royals pitchers. Veteran righthander Brian Boehringer (0-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.

RedHawks starter Robinson Tejeda (2-2), making his first road start since April 21, picked up win with five solid innings, allowing four hits and three runs on a homer by Justin Huber.

The RedHawks have not trailed in the series, opening a 5-0 lead in the third inning Friday. After an RBI single by Arias in the fifth made it 6-3, it became a one-run game with Paul Phillips' two-run homer off Kelvin Jimenez in the sixth. Oklahoma established an 8-5 lead with Hyzdu's fourth RBI of the game and Nix's third in a two-run seventh off reliever Luke Hudson.

The RedHawks improved to 29-32, the first time since they were 9-12 at the close of play April 28 that they've been as few as three games under .500. Omaha drops to 25-36. Oklahoma is now 14-9 in one-run games, with seven of the last 12 being decided by one run.

Righthander Edinson Volquez will oppose lefty J.P. Howell Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. CDT in Omaha.
