Today's Game: The RedHawks look to keep their eight-game winning streak alive as they open a four-game series with Colorado Springs at 7:05 p.m. Tonight is Pack the Park Pink, presented by MidFirst Bank. The RedHawks will wear special pink jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game, with proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Last Game: The RedHawks built a 7-1 lead and hung on for a 7-6 win Friday to complete a sweep of the Reno Aces. A RBI double by Tyler Bortnick in the third inning put Reno ahead, but Oklahoma City answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game on Brandon Laird's RBI single. Oklahoma City went ahead in the bottom of the fourth with a home run by Marwin Gonzalez and scored twice more later in the inning. The RedHawks added three more runs in the fifth, including a two-run single by Rene Garcia. Reno's comeback started in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Mike Jacobs. The Aces notched four runs and five hits in the eighth inning and stranded the tying run at third base. Reno had the tying run at second base with two outs in the ninth before Jorge De Leon struck out Chris Owings to end the game and earn his first save with the RedHawks. RedHawks starting pitcher Asher Wojciechowski (7-4) turned in another great start, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks over seven innings.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Bobby Doran makes his third start with the RedHawks tonight...His most recent action with the RedHawks came in a spot start in Omaha July 23. He allowed one run and five hits with two strikeouts and one walk over 5.1 innings, but he had to settle for a no decision after the RedHawks could not hang onto a late lead...In two starts with OKC, Doran has allowed four runs and 11 hits over 10 innings. He's holding PCL opponents to a 1-for-13 mark with runners in scoring position...Doran has spent most of this season with Double-A Corpus Christi, pitching in 23 games and starting 13. With the Hooks he has a 3.26 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 94.0 IP. His ERA and 1.17 WHIP both currently rank sixth in the Texas League...He last pitched Monday night in San Antonio and did not figure the decision after allowing three runs and a season-high 10 hits over six innings...Doran was selected by Houston in the fourth round of the 2010 draft from Texas Tech University.
Against the Sky Sox: 2013: 0-0 2012: 3-1 All-time: 64-48 In OKC: 38-18
Tonight marks the first meeting between the RedHawks and Sky Sox since May 24, 2012...Oklahoma City won the 2012 series, 3-1, taking the first three games before losing the series finale in Colorado Springs. Both teams hit well, as the RedHawks batted .328 and the Sky Sox hit .326. No current RedHawks position player participated in that series...The teams last played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark August 12-15, 2011. They split the series and two games went into extra innings...The Sky Sox have won six of the last eight meetings between the teams in Oklahoma City, but the RedHawks hold a 38-18 edge in Bricktown all-time.
High-Water Mark: The RedHawks now sit a season-best 14 games above .500 and have won a season-best eight straight games. By going 13-4 since the All-Star Break, the RedHawks have erased a 4.5-game deficit in the standings and enter tonight with sole possession of first place in the American Southern Division for the first time since June 3.
Deja Vu All Over Again?: During the team's only 12-game homestand of 2012, the RedHawks won the first nine games, May 29-June 7. So far during their only 12-game homestand of 2013, they have won the first eight games.
Leaders, Not Followers: During their current eight-game winning streak, the RedHawks have yet to trail for a full inning. The opposing team has taken the lead in the top of an inning three times, but the RedHawks have tied it up in the bottom of the inning each time.
Mound Magic: Since the All-Star Break, the RedHawks have a 2.59 ERA (43 ER/149.1 IP). The starters have combined for a 2.21 ERA (25 ER/102.0 IP) and allowed more than two earned runs in a game just twice. The RedHawks have held opponents to three runs or less in 12 of their 17 games since the break as well.
Dinger Details: Marwin Gonzalez's fourth-inning homer last night was the first hit by the team in five games. Their 84 dingers this season are third-least in the PCL. On the other hand, the RedHawks have only allowed three homers during their current eight-game winning streak, and the 86 homers they've surrendered this season are second-least in the PCL (Memphis - 79).
Close Calls: Five of the team's last six wins have been by one run. The RedHawks are 20-16 in one-run games and have played in the second-most one-run games in the PCL this season (New Orleans - 44).
Frenemies: For the second straight night, the RedHawks will square off against a pitcher who played for OKC in 2012. Last season Armando Galarraga went 3-2 with a 4.12 ERA over nine starts for the RedHawks before he joined the Houston Astros. Galarraga also suited up for the RedHawks when they were affiliated with the Texas Rangers in 2007. Tonight is the first time he'll pitch as a visitor at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, where he is 2-4 with a 4.55 ERA over his career.
As the Crowe Flies: Trevor Crowe is 6-for-13 with three RBI over the past three nights and now is 7-for-23 over the first six games of his rehab assignment. Crowe has been sidelined since spraining the AC joint in his right shoulder on June 20. He spent the first month of the season with the RedHawks, hitting .307/2/14. The RedHawks are 14-2 when Crowe leads off this season.
Opening Remarks: The RedHawks have won their last four series-opening games and claimed victory in six of the last seven openers. Oklahoma City is now 13-15 in series openers this season, including 6-8 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
