MEMPHIS, TN - Oklahoma City crashed the Redbirds home opening festivities Friday night shutting out Memphis 7-0 in front of 10,717 fans at AutoZone Park.
The RedHawks wasted no time jumping on 'Birds starter Adam Ottavino with Chad Tracy's two-run homer in the first inning and never looked back. Matt Brown led the Hawks going 3-for-4 with two home runs and Tracy drove in three runs. Memphis was shutout for the first time this year but Jon Jay extended his hit streak to nine games with a single in the seventh inning.
Gary Geary picked up the win for the RedHawks with three scoreless innings of relief. Starter Guillermo Moscoso pitched around four walks and two hits over the first three innings. Ottavino took the loss for Memphis giving up five runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in five innings.
Memphis hosts Oklahoma City tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The Redbirds send Brandon Dickson to the mound to face RedHawks lefty Michael Ballard. The first 5000 fans through the gates for tomorrow night's game will receive a 2010 Redbirds magnet schedule presented by Riceland Rice.
