Memphis miscues lead to loss

MEMPHIS, TN - A pair of Memphis errors led to a four-run fifth inning for Oklahoma City in the RedHawks 7-2 win over the Redbirds Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

With the Redbirds leading 2-1 in the fifth inning Oklahoma City put four runs on the board to take the lead. Matt Brown's leadoff double started the rally and Redbirds first baseman Kevin Howard's two errors on one play led to the Hawks first two runs. Brown's two-run homer in the eighth inning extended the lead to five runs. Justin Smoak finished the day with three hits to lead Oklahoma City. Daniel Descalso led the ‘Birds with two hits and one RBI. The loss was the fourth straight for Memphis.

RedHawks starter Michael Ballard picked up the win giving up two runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings Memphis starter Brandon Dickson took the loss allowing five runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks across six innings.

The Redbirds and RedHawks play tomorrow afternoon with first pitch slated for 1:35 p.m. Evan MacLane gets the nod for the ‘Birds against Oklahoma City lefty Derek Holland. Tomorrow is Kid's Opening Day presented by Comcast. For ticket information call 901.721.6000 or visit memphisredbirds.com.
