MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (19-9) had the tying run on third base with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth, but a tough-luck double play and a strikeout ended the game and gave the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Dodgers) a 1-0 win in the series finale Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
The first two Redbirds reached base in the ninth on a single and an error, before Steven Baron ripped a line drive that was snagged by the first baseman, who doubled off Patrick Wisdom at first. After a walk to Randy Arozarena, Wilfredo Tovar struck out to end the ballgame.
Dakota Hudson was solid on the mound, matching a career high with 8.0 innings pitched and allowing just the one unearned run in the eighth. He struck out four and walked one on the night. The right-hander faced the minimum through four innings thanks in part to a caught stealing and a double play, and he retired seven-straight at one point in the middle of his outing.
The Dodgers plated the game's only run in the eighth when Wes Darvill reached on an error, went to second on a single, moved up on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a fielder's choice when Wisdom tried to throw him out at the plate.
Max Schrock had a two-out double in the home-half of the eighth, but Tyler O'Neill grounded out to end the frame. Preston Guilmet pitched the ninth for the Redbirds and struck out two.
Baron and Yairo Munoz each finished with two-hit games for the Redbirds, and Schrock was 3-for-4 with a pair of two-baggers.
Memphis was 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base. There were five double plays in the contest.
Memphis now hits the road for eight games at Nashville and Oklahoma City, before returning to AutoZone Park for four games starting on Saturday the 12th. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com/tickets.
