Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Adalberto Mondesi hit another home run, Trevor Oaks pitched 6 innings, and the Storm Chasers earned their first road series win of 2018 with a 6-4 victory on Thursday afternoon at Principal Park.
Omaha claimed the first run of the game in the top of the 3rd. Humberto Arteaga singled, advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Adalberto Mondesi, and scored on a single by Ramon Torres .
The Chasers added another in the top of the 4th. Paulo Orlando doubled, Bubba Starling singled, and Humberto Arteaga singled in Orlando for a 2-0 lead.
Frank Schwindel made it 3-0 in the top of the 5th with his 4th home run of the year. That homer chased Cubs starter Michael Roth, who tossed 4.1 innings and allowed 3 runs, 8 hits, and 1 walk. He struck out 1.
Iowa rallied in the bottom of the 5th against Trevor Oaks. Jacob Hanneman and Chesny Young singled, and Ryan Court hit a 3-run homer to tie the game.
Omaha regained the lead in the top of the 6th against Anthony Bass (L, 0-1), as Adalberto Mondesi hit a 2-run homer to right field for a 5-3 Chasers advantage.
Oaks (W, 2-2) battled through 6 innings for the Storm Chasers; he scattered 8 hits and 4 walks, but only allowed 3 runs, while striking out 5.
Brandon Maurer tossed a flawless bottom of the 7th, and deserved to throw a scoreless bottom of the 8th. Instead, Iowa plated a fortunate run when Chris Giminez' 2-out popup was lost in the sun in shallow center field, allowing Mark Zagunis to score and reducing Omaha's lead to 5-4.
The Chasers regained that run in the top of the 9th, however. Hunter Dozier walked and was pinch-run for by Terrance Gore . Gore promptly stole 2nd and 3rd base, and when Frank Schwindel hit a ground ball to 1st, Gore beat the throw home to make it 6-4.
Jason Adam (S, 2) earned his 2nd save in 3 days by throwing a soreless bottom of the 9th, sending Omaha to their 3rd win in a row.
The Storm Chasers (11-16) will return to Werner Park tomorrow to begin an 8-game homestand against New Orleans. LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (0-3, 2.10) will pitch for Omaha, opposed by Sandy Alcantara (0-1, 3.81) for the Baby Cakes. It will be Star Wars Night, presented by ParentSavvy.com, with Hy-Vee Friday Fireworks to follow the game.
Single-game tickets are available for all remaining 2018 Storm Chasers home contests, and may be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets, or through the Werner Park Ticket Office during open hours from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday either in-person or by calling (402) 738-5100.
