Redbirds fly by Omaha in walk-off fashion

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis and Omaha battled back and forth Saturday night at AutoZone Park before the Redbirds emerged with a 6-5 victory to claim their first win over Omaha in the 2011 season.

Omaha tied the game 4-4 in the top of the eighth inning off two RBI-singles and took a 5-4 lead in the ninth on David Lough's base hit that sent home Jarrod Dyson. Andrew Brown stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the frame with one on and two out, only to send one into the stands for a two-run homer to send the Redbirds past the Storm Chasers in a 6-5 victory, walk-off style. Brown went 2-for-5 on the night with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the ‘Birds. Jarrod Dyson and Lorenzo Cain each had two hits to pace the Chasers.

Memphis reliever Victor Marte picked up his first win of the year despite a blown save in his 1.2 innings of work. Jesse Chavez took the loss for Omaha giving up two runs on two hits in the ninth inning. Memphis starter Mitchell Boggs tossed four scoreless innings allowing only three hits and one walk while fanning four.

The ‘Birds take on the Storm Chasers tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. Lance Lynn will head to the mound for the Redbirds to face southpaw Mike Montgomery. Tomorrow is Veteran's Appreciation Night, The Tennessee National Guard will recognize surviving military families and local veterans in ceremonies throughout the game.
